Searching for a good perfume can be hard sometimes. If you want to
purchase one for the first time you need to discover what kind of
perfumes you like. How you apply perfume is important as well. Here are
some purchasing and application tips.
Purchasing perfume
If
you don't know what kind of perfumes you like, smell perfumes from
different categories (ask a shop assistant): floral, oriental, woody and
fresh. You'll discover what you like.
You can test yourself and find out which perfume category fits you the best with this test: The fragrance test (for women).
Try
the perfume on a scent strip but on your own skin as well as a perfume
can develop totally different on your skin. You'll smell the top notes
when some of the alcohol has evaporated but to see whether you like the
middle and basenotes too you'll need to wait a few hours and smell your
perfumed skin now and then.
Don't forget that there are
Eau de Toilettes and Eau de Parfums. Eau de Parfums contain more
perfume than Eau de Toilettes and have a better sillage also lasting
longer. The notes in the Eau de Toilette can differ slightly from the
Eau de Parfum as the Eau de Parfum is usually less watery and more like a
luxurious good-quality scent. Eau de Parfums are more expensive. If you
bought a certain perfume for the first time I would start with an Eau
de Toilette: if you dislike it more and more after buying you didn't
spend much money on it, when you consider buying a perfume for the
second time you can try the Eau de Parfum.
Application
Applying perfume is not that difficult, you just need to do it the right way.
The
amount of sprays to apply depends on the weather, your age, the perfume
etc. The best to do is to spray 2 to 5 times; the older you are and the
lighter the perfume is the more sprays you should use. Floral and fresh
perfumes are usually lighter than Oriental or woody fragrances.
The best places to apply it are: behind your ears; on your neck; on your wrists and in your hair.
Some
people spray perfume onto their skin and rub it into it by applying it
onto one wrist and then rubbing it against the other; this is not the
right way to do it! The perfume will perform differently on your skin:
the scent you loved so much might change into a nightmare on your wrist.
I hope this helped, good luck!
